Alex is a translator and writer. A 2023 National Endowment for the Arts translation fellow and nominee for the Best of the Net Anthology, her work has been published widely in the United States and abroad.
As a translator, she primarily works from French, Russian, and Spanish. Her translations include For the Shrew and Hekate by Anna Glazova, as well as The John Cage Experiences by Vincent Tholomé. Her translation of For the Shrew won the 2023 Heldt Prize for Best Translation (Association for Women in Slavic Studies) and the 2023 AATSEEL Prize for Best Poetry Translation into English. She has received arts residencies at Translation House Looren (Switzerland), the Collège européen des traducteurs littéraires de Seneffe (Belgium), and the International Writers and Translators House (Latvia).
She is also the author of the chapbook Elephant and her poetry has appeared in Columbia Journal (where she was a finalist for the Fall Poetry Competition), Midway Journal, and Prelude, among others.
Alex holds a BA in comparative literature and Romance languages from the University of Michigan and an MFA in literary translation from the University of Iowa, where she was an Iowa Arts Fellow. She is a member of the American Literary Translators Association and the Third Coast Translators Collective.
